Great news for cats as Virginia’s legislative session draws to a close this month:

Virginia took a huge step forward for animals when the House of Delegates today approved the Promote Adoptions Bill, SB 1381, by an overwhelming 95-2! Now, it is assured that all private animal shelters will be operated for the purpose of adoption.

We are also pleased to report that the Cat Impoundment Bill, HB 1565, failed in the Virginia Senate. The bill would have encouraged the impoundment of any cat outdoors. The Senate voted down this dangerous bill by a vote of 29-8.

Thanks to everyone who made their voices heard and took action on behalf of cats. Alley Cat Allies will continue to engage in public policy to promote the well-being of cats, and we will continue to keep you updated on important issues facing cats in Virginia.
