A bill that would ban feeding and releasing cats on public land is being considered by the Hawaii Committees on Water, Land and Agriculture and Economic Development, Environment and Technology.

Hawaii residents, make your voice heard TODAY and protect cats.

The ban would make it illegal for individuals to “release, feed, water, or otherwise care for unrestrained predators”, including cats, on public land. Cat caregivers could face fines up to $1000.

The committees are hosting a joint hearing on Friday, February 12 to discuss the bill. Contact your legislators and tell them that you oppose the feeding ban.

Feeding bans are cruel and ineffective, and punish compassionate caregivers who help both cats and the community. Cats who have been fed on a consistent schedule can become dependent on their caregivers for food, and banning that care is cruel. Banning the feeding of cats will not make them disappearthey will just roam further to find food. A release ban would prevent Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), the only humane and effective approach to outdoor cat populations.
