Last year Virginia’s animals had a major win with the Promote Adoptions Bill. Now, a dangerous bill that would roll back that progress, HB 340, has passed through the Virginia House of Delegates and into the Senate on its way to becoming law. HB 340 will be heard by the Senate Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources Committee in just a few days.

Virginia Residents: Contact your State Senator and ask them to protect animals and oppose HB 340.

The Promote Adoptions Bill guaranteed that private animal shelters are “operated for the purpose of finding permanent adoptive homes and facilitating other lifesaving outcomes for animals.” HB 340 would loosen this very basic requirement and allow private shelters to kill animals without even looking for homes first.

If this bill keeps moving forward, countless animals in Virginia could lose their lives.
