Thanks to the overwhelming support of Hawaii cat lovers, a bill that would ban feeding and releasing cats on public lands in Hawaii has been deferred! This is a good first step, but we still need Hawaii residents to speak out against this bill. The bill, SB 2450, was considered by the Hawaii Senate Committees on Water, Land and Agriculture and Economic Development, Environment and Technology, and was deferred on February 12.

The bill would make it illegal for individuals to “release, feed, water, or otherwise care for unrestrained predators”, including cats, on public lands. If this bill passes, cat caregivers could face fines up to $1000.

The strong show of opposition delayed action on the bill, but our work isn’t done yet. Keep up the great work and keep the messages comingthe committees could still move to reconsider the bill!
