Declawing isn’t just a nail trim. It is a surgery that amputates the last bone on each of a cat’s toes. Recovery is painful, and the surgery can have serious and harmful long-term effects on a cat’s wellbeing. Cats rely heavily on their claws, so they can have trouble walking, balancing, and using the litter box without them. Declawed cats may also become more aggressive out of stress, which could cause them to be taken to shelters and killed.
