Meet Inky, Pearl, and Piethe three fabulous felines of the 2016 National Feral Cat Day poster! These are more than just pretty drawings; they’re real cats with real stories and we want to share them with you. This year’s National Feral Cat Day theme, “All Cats All Communities”, celebrates all catspet, stray, feral, and every cat in between. Inky, Pearl, and Pie represent these diverse backgrounds, and all three have their own unique purr-sonalities. Get to know them:

Inky:

NFCD_MeetTheCats_Inky Alley Cat Allies has been caring for the famous community cats of the Atlantic City Boardwalk in New Jersey since 2000. Because of our highly successful Trap-Neuter-Return program, the cats are living long and healthy lives outdoorsand drawing admirers from all over the nation!

Eighteen-year-old Inky is one of the oldest Boardwalk Cats. As you can see from his eartip, this handsome black cat was neutered and vaccinated as part of our Trap-Neuter-Return program, and now he’s living a long, healthy life outdoors. He is an example of a community cat living happily in a managed colony. Inky loves eating the yummy food Alley Cat Allies volunteers provide him every day. He then partakes in an after-meal ritual of nuzzling his kitty friends and napping under the Boardwalk.

Pearl:

NFCD_MeetTheCats_PearlBeautiful tabby Pearl is an academic. She lives on the campus of the University of New South Wales in Australia, traveling through the campus alongside students. She and her fellow felines are cared for by the Campus Cat Coalition, a group of students who conduct TNR for the local cats. Pearl spends her days relaxing with her friends Arabella, Lucy and Hannah, near the chemistry building.

Pearl has no idea how lucky she is. TNR is not well established in Australia the way it is in the United States. In fact, Australia is currently in the midst of a deadly plan to kill millions of community cats. However, there are individuals and groups working hard to protect Australia’s cats, and Alley Cat Allies is providing support and expertise. Pearl represents the community cats we’re working hard to protect not just across the nation, but around the world.

Pie:

NFCD_MeetTheCats_PiePie is a real cutie-pie! This adorable calico and her siblings were once known as the “blizzard kittens”. That’s rightthey were found outside in the middle of a huge blizzard in Washington D.C. earlier this year! Thankfully, some compassionate people found the days-old kittens and called Alley Cat Allies for help. We helped trap the mother and reunite her with her kittens, and the whole family was neutered and vaccinated two months later.

Since Pie and her siblings were socialized from an early age, they were put up for adoption while mom was spayed, vaccinated, eartipped and returned to her outdoor home. Today, Pie is loving life as a pet cat in her forever home, indoors! She represents the companion cats whose stories could have been much different had dedicated cat lovers not stepped up to help.

These three cats are just like the cats you might see in your own communityand they all deserve protection. National Feral Cat Day is a worldwide call for cat lovers to come together and make it happen. Each October 16, thousands of individuals and organizations engage in activities from blogging and spreading community cat awareness in their neighborhood to hosting spay/neuter clinics and conducting TNR.

We hope you will join us this year by hosting or taking part in a National Feral Cat Day action. Learn how you can get involved at www.NationalFeralCatDay.org.
